It's hard to believe how many artists covered Bo Diddley. That book I mentioned has a very long list of artists/songs/albums
of bands who covered or used that important "Bo Diddley sound" on
their own records. The book you should read "Bo Diddley Living Legend"
The Biography By George R. White. (Forward By Don Everly)
While it seems really nice to honor Bo, it seems
the more and more I look at records,no one hardly thanks him enough.
Here's a short list of songs/artists who owe some kind of debt:
Artists who covered the song "Bo Diddley" : The Animals,
The Astronauts, Art Neville, Sandy Nelson, Buddy Knox,
Buddy Holly, The Meters, Jimmie Rodgers, Link Wray,
The Barbarians, The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Stu Mitchell,
The Bill Black Combo, The Caroll Bros., The MC5, Ronnie Hawkins,
Credence Clearwater Revival, Jimi Hendrix, Warren Zevon,
Bobby Vee & The Crickets, Billy Lee Riley, Bob Seger,
The Royal Guardsmen, The Fugitives, Fleetwood Mac, The Cavemen,
and countless others...
Artists who covered "Mona" aka "I Need You Baby" / "Not Fade Away"
(Not Fade Away is a rhythmic riff from Mona)
Mick Farren, The Len Bright Combo, The Haunted, Buddy Holly,
The Iguanas, The Milkshakes, The Rolling Stones, The Troggs,
The Nashville Teens, T.C. Atlantic, The Teddy Boys, Mahogany Rush,
Bruce Springsteen, and countless others...
The song "Road Runner" was also covered to death:
The Accent, The Animals, Brownsville Station, The Gants,
The Count Victors, The Gibson Bros., The Phantoms,
Cub Coda, Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders, The Shamrocks,
Johnny Winter, The Zombies, The Thin White Rope, Les Miserables,
The Master's Apprentices, The Liverbirds, The Pretty Things,
and countless others.
And don't get me started about garage bands covered or used some
of Bo Diddley's style and rhythmic beats. There's a lot!
The New Colony Six "Cadillac" (Sentar1203),
The Preachers "Who Do You Love" (Moonglow 223)
The Remains "Diddy Wah Diddy" (Epic 10001)
The Shadows Of Knight "Oh Yeah" (Dunwich 122)
and "You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover" (Dunwich LP Gloria)
The Ugly Ducklings "I Can Tell" (Yorktown Y-45001) and
"Mama Keep Your Big Mouth Shut" (Yorktown LP Somewhere Outside)
The Woolies "Who Do You Love" (Spirit 113)
And what else? These artists covered "Who Do You Love";
Keith "Guitar" Allison, The Blues Magoos, The Doors,
Gina & The Strollers, The Milkshakes, The Steve Miller Band,
Ronnie Hawkins, Ian Hunter, The Jesus & Mary Chain,
The Misunderstood, The Mood, The Only Ones, The Yardbirds,
Quicksilver Messenger Service, Juicy Lucy, John Hammond, Roy Head,
The Hoodoo Gurus, and countless others.
Did I forget these too? The Strangeloves "I Want Candy"
The Electric Prunes did a Bo Diddley Beat in
"Get Me To The World On Time" . Even U2 use that patented beat
on "Desire" (listen to that song again-you'll see what I mean).
Then, there's tons of tracks by The Pretty Things, who built a whole
early career from that cool sound:
"Rosalyn"(Fontana TF-469), "Don't Bring Me Down" (Fontana TF-503),
they covered "Roadrunner", "She's Fine,She's Mine", "Pretty Thing"
and "13 Chester St." (actually Slim Harpo's I Got Love If You Want It set to
the Bo Diddley beat).... woah. I'm tired of writing this.
I'm just trying to show people how important Bo Diddley's music was.
He should be honored a lot more, is all I'm saying... Thanks Bo!

Looks like you're gonna post the whole box set !! that's really great, thanks a lot !
Thanks for all the whup-ass, it is much appreciated by this Bo-Maniac!
(I am wearing my Bo Diddley T-Shirt as I type this: it has a gun on the hip and a rose on the chest.)
No, I don't take no mess - why do you ask?
:)

You bet I'm gonna post the whole set, that's why I'm here. This set is so hard to find, and I can't see paying 500. for it on ebay.(unless you're a nut like me-who paid about that for it 5 years ago)
Besides,it's got every track you need to hear. Plus Charly Records is the best label for these type of comps. They did one on Chuck Berry ,Howlin' Wolf, and some others I forgot.(sorry) I got 'em all. Because they are great. Don't ask me to post them right now,or I'll fall over.
I looked up the word Whoop Ass,and found it spelt "whoop ass", not "Whup Ass",it's one of those words, you can't find in normal dictionaries. But I guess you got the drift, anyways. Thanks.
you have justified the existence of the internet with these posts on the master. Check out my photo with Bo over at http://patcarty.blogspot.com/2008/06/bo-no-mo.html
Great, great work. Many thanks.
I have about 30 LP's/CD's by BO, but... I CAN'T GIT ENUFF!
Thanks a lot Garage66!
RYP
tanx for sharing this fanastic set. I can't believe all the tracks and there are still 4 more to go. I heard Charley went out of business. Is that true? Too bad, they do great work.
thanks a lot but volume 8 first part has been blocked by rapidshare can you reload please?
If this is blocked from the site,I absolutely cannot re-upload This Bo Diddley box set.
If someone is unhappy and complaining about it,I must not post it on here. And that's it!
Plain and simple.
Thanks anyways for allowing people to hear it,and enjoy the music, since this is way out of print. Sorry I posted it on here, if it bothered someone.
Garage66 any chance for you to send me personally the 3 zips that I miss to have the complete thing. As for rapidshare i think that nobody complained just that when they see name of files recalling something musical they suspend the downloadability... Maybe if you could post with less evident titles of files...
please, I missed volume 4, 6 part 2 and 8 part 1 can you send to my email address if you don't want to reupload... please, it was years i was looking that box set
